MERS-CoV in France and Saudi Arabia

Between January 2025 and 29 April 2026, there have been 19 human cases of MERS reported – 17 reported by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and two reported by France in December 2025 in individuals who had travelled to the Middle East. Hantavirus - unknown origin

On 18 May 2026, the World Health Organization stated that a total of 11 cases of Andes virus (nine confirmed and two probable), including three deaths have been reported in relation to the outbreak which began on the MV Hondius cruise ship. Ebola virus disease in DRC

As of 19 May 2026, there are now 30 confirmed cases, more than 500 suspected cases, and 130 suspected deaths in the DRC, from the northeastern province of Ituri. An American national has also been confirmed positive and been transferred to Germany, as reported by the U.S. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on Ebola virus.

Yellow fever in Brazil

On 14 May 2026, two deaths from yellow fever were reported in the Vale de Paraiba region of Sao Paolo state. This brings the total number of cases in the state during 2026 to nine, including five deaths. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on yellow fever.

Ebola virus disease in Uganda ex DRC

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has declared that the Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). Two laboratory confirmed cases (including one death) with no apparent link to each other have been reported in Kampala, Uganda, within 24 hours of each other, on 15 and 16 May 2026, among two individuals travelling from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
