French Guiana

Chikungunya in French Guiana

As of 5 February 2026, four locally acquired (autochthonous) cases of chikungunya have been reported from French Guiana. Investigations have not revealed any link between these cases, indicating that the virus is already circulating widely within the local mosquito population. These are the first locally acquired cases on French Guiana since 2017. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on chikungunya.
